There's a different kind of quiet up here. One of two cabins, Cockatoo Cabin at Nebesa sits on a hilltop, five acres of untouched bushland rolling out in every direction, with views that stretch clear to the ocean.

Mornings start in the open-air outdoor bathtub on the balcony, sunrise easing over the treeline while the world stays exactly where it is. The resident wildlife tends to agree it's worth sticking around for: parrots, cockatoos and the occasional kangaroo drop by throughout the day, treating the cabin like it's theirs as much as yours. Come evening, the fire pit with outdoor kitchen takes over, the Gold Coast's distant lights glittering below as the hinterland air turns cool.

Inside, everything's been thought through so you don't have to think about it — Queen bed, air-conditioning, working desk, fast wifi, Netflix, outdoor BBQ, Nespresso coffee machine and all the little kitchenette and body essentials sorted. The hideaway perfectly suits a couple escaping for the weekend or can comfortably accommodate a small group or family after something quieter than the coast. When you book for 3 or 4 guests, a sofa bed in the lounge room can be made up into a 2nd bedroom, with access to an additional toilet. Onsite parking is sorted too, with space for two cars. For the extended family, this cabin is pet-friendly upon request, with additional fees applying.

The property is surrounded by wildlife, with sightings of king parrots, cockatoos, kookaburras, lorikeets, kangaroos, wallabies and lizards common in the area. And if you're lucky, you might just cross paths with Sparkles, Nebesa's resident dog, doing her rounds of the property.

Leaving the hilltop is optional, but when you do, Mudgeeraba village is close by — a pretty, old-world pocket of the hinterland with the historic Wallaby Hotel, the long-running Mudgeeraba Farmers Markets on weekends and a handful of cafes and galleries worth the wander. Though quiet and peaceful, the cabin is just 10 minutes from town, offering easy access to local cafes, restaurants, including Pancho's Mexican for a casual bite and cocktails. Don't miss Springbrook National Park, offering the Natural Bridge and glow worm caves.
